A contractor taking soil samples struck a sewage line near Hwy 378 and Horse Creek Bridge in Lexington.

Lexington, SC (WLTX) A break in a sewer line in Lexington has caused an undetermined amount of sewage into Lake Murray.

According to an email from Jennifer Dowden from the city of Lexington, an independent contractor was conducting soil bore tests in an area of Highway 378 and Horse Creek Bridge and struck the line causing a break.

The Town of Lexington has conducted repairs and cleanup is underway.

Samples have been taken in the affected area and DHEC has been notified of the incident.
