Holbrook says there are currently 5 officers assigned to Columbia's Five Points area and 4 officers assigned to the Vista/ Main Street area. Currently, there are additional officers helping police five points- they are earning overtime.

"It's a good stop gap strategy, but it is not sustainable. We have to be sensitive to the quality of life of police officers that we are taxing with extra duty. It wears on your mental and physical state at times," said Holbrook.

Holbrook also wants to look into training officers to patrol on bikes and even reinstate the mounted patrol unit within the department. Some of his public safety initiatives include: Tackling underage age drinking, staggering bar closing times, controlling parking lots and banning trouble makers.
