Pope Francis canonized Pope John the 23rd and Pope John Paul II into sainthood this week.
Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A Midlands family is remembering how they had a special meeting with a man who's literally now a saint.
Pope Francis canonized Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II into sainthood Sunday during an unprecedented ceremony in Saint Peter's Square in Vatican City. Pope John Paul II canonization is the fastest in modern history.
Right here in the Midlands, people were able to see the pope first hand when he visited Columbia in 1987. That visited included an address at Williams-Brice Stadium.
But it also included a stop at St. Peter's Catholic Church in downtown Columbia. And it was there that a father, Pat Clark, worked to get his children to see the Pope, who ultimately blessed the children.
In the video attached to this article, Pat and his daughter, Jennie Yarborough, described what happened 27 years ago.
