Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County firefighters battled separate fires Thursday afternoon that were just a few miles apart.

One of the blazes was on Chisholm Way, while the other took place on Mineral Creek Court. The homes are about two miles from each other.

At around 2:45, firefighters were called to Chisolm Way where they found a fire that originated at the back of the home.

While they were battling that blaze, another call came in of a fire on Mineral Creek Court. Bob Brown says he was on his brother's porch when he spotted flames coming from the deck area.

Brown says he was unable to find a long enough hose and watched the fire go from a small patch of the deck to the entire top of the home.

Crews took nearly an hour to get the flames under control, but the home was heavily damaged by the time it was put out.

Officials say the fires are not considered suspicious and are unrelated.

What may have caused the fires is not yet known, but they are deemed accidental.
