Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The University of South Carolina will be the home of the archives of celebrated author Pat Conroy.
The university announced Friday that it bought Conroy's archives for its special collections library. Conroy's works include "The Great Santini" and "The Prince of Tides," both of which were adapted into movies.
He currently makes his home in the Lowcountry.
The collection includes handwritten manuscripts of his eleven books as well as family scrapbooks and personal diaries.
"I don't know what's in there," Conroy said. "I collected everything. Someone came up to me today and said 'Pat are our love letters in there?' I looked and said 'my God I hope not.' (laughs)"
Most of the work is handwritten, because Conroy never learned to type because his father wanted him to be a fighter pilot.
