The accident killed two people and injured others according to the Sumter Police.


Sumter, SC (WLTX) The Sumter Police Department is investigating an accident that occurred at Lafayette Drive and Myrtle Street in which there were two fatalities and several others reported injured.

Preliminary information indicates a Hyundai traveling south on Lafayette crossed into oncoming traffic striking two vehicles -- a Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac sedan -- shortly before 7:30 p.m.

Five people were transported to Tuomey Regional Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Names are being withheld pending contacting family members of all involved.

Sumter Police are being assisted by the state Highway Patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team to determine the cause of the accident.
