The accident killed two people and injured others according to the Sumter Police.
Sumter, SC (WLTX) - The Sumter County Coroner has released the names of the individuals that died in an accident Friday night at Lafayette Drive and Myrtle Street.
Coroner Bullock has identified the male driver as James Lee Roger, age 68, and the female passenger as Ophelia Hinnant, age 45.
Preliminary information indicates a Hyundai traveling south on Lafayette crossed into oncoming traffic striking two vehicles -- a Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac sedan -- shortly before 7:30 p.m.
Five people were transported to Tuomey Regional Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Coroner Bullock says Roger and Hinnant were pronounced dead the scene.
Sumter Police are being assisted by the state Highway Patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team to determine the cause of the accident.
