Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The South Carolina Senate has confirmed Janet Oakley as the new state transportation secretary.
The vote Thursday was 37-0.
Oakley has worked in the transportation industry for 30 years, the last 15 of which as the director of policy and government relations for the American Association of Transportation Officials. There, she coordinated with state DOTS to support innovation in transportation leadership.
Governor Nikki Haley said when she nominated her for the job that she wants Oakley to focus on improving South Carolina's infrastructure statewide.
Oakley takes over for Robert St. Onge, who resigned in January after he was charged with DUI.
