Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Deputies say the suspect that fatally shot a man at Richland Village Apartments this weekend has turned himself in.

Richland County Deputies have arrested and charged Channen Ricks, age 26, with murder.

At approximately 5:30am on Sunday deputies responded to shots fired at Richland Village apartments on Universal Drive.

According to Sheriff Leon Lott, Ricks got into a physical alteration with the victim, and his friend inside the apartment.

During the altercation Ricks was able to take a gun away from the victim.The victim and his friend then jumped out the bedroom window and started running. Sheriff Lott says that Ricks chased after them and fired multiple shots at the victim, striking him several times.

Officials say when they arrived at the scene they found one male unresponsive in front of the apartment buildings.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say Ricks is being held at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
