Camden, SC (WLTX) - Crews have cleaned up most of the chicken byproduct that spilled along a roadway in Camden Thursday and left a smelly mess in its wake.
Camden Police Chief Joe Floyd said Friday there are a few places were the residue remains and is causing a little odor, but the majority of the material is gone.
Floyd said a truck from Valley Protein was carrying the load down DeKalb Street when the material began leaking out of the top. Floyd said it appeared the hot weather caused the byproduct to expand, causing it to go outside of its container. Previous Coverage: Truck Spills Smelly Chicken By-Product on Road
There were three separate leaks along a 12 block stretch of the road.
The material is non-hazardous, but the Department of Health and Environmental Control was there to make sure the waste was properly disposed of.
The driver or the truck has been ticketed for "spilling load on the highway," which carries a $240 fine.
