Columbia, SC (WLTX) A chlorine leak occured at the City of Columbia Water Treatment plant around 7:44 PM Friday night.

The Columbia Fire Department responded to 300 Laurel Street, City of Columbia Water Treatment Plant, for a chlorine leak. When crews arrived they found a leaking valve on a 1-ton chlorine tank.

The chemical scrubbing protection system activated and contained the spill in the area of origin.

The Columbia Fire department Haz-Mat team members went into the area and were able to stop the leak.

Twenty-six fire personnel were on the scene and the leak was under control at 9:30PM. No injuries were reported.
