Columbia, SC (WLTX) – A power outage at Palmetto Health Baptist kept the Columbia Fire Department, Columbia Police and hospital officials busy early Friday morning.
Tammie Epps, public information officer for Palmetto Health, said that in response to the outage the hospital's backup generators kicked in; however, there was a generator system malfunction creating smoke. As a safety precaution some patients were relocated to other areas of the hospital but no patients were in danger, according to Epps.
During the incident several roads around the hospital were blocked off to traffic. Streets are now reopen and Epps says the hospital is back to normal.
