Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) - A train and a car collided in Orangeburg Monday afternoon, sending the driver of the car to the hospital.

The collision took place at 12:36 at a set of tracks on Russell Street.

The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety says the driver of the car was confused about where to stop for the approaching train, and pulled out in front of the locomotive.

The train truck the car, causing it to spin, which allowed it to be struck a a second time by the train. The vehicle then traveled 70 feet onto nearby Boulevard Avenue.

The driver of the car and a passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment.
