Lexington, SC (WLTX) A man has been arrested by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department on charges that he operated an illegal gaming house.
Lexington County Sheriff Lewis McCarty said Gregory Speaks, 44, who does not have a permanent address, turned himself in on Thursday, July 3 on arrest warrants on eight counts of unlawfully possessing a video gambling device and one count of operating a gaming house.
Officers say the devices were found at a home on Fields Lane near Lexington.
Speaks was being held on Thursday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.
On Wednesday, July 2, Sheriff's Department narcotics investigators and SLED agents executed a search warrant at the home.
Investigators determined Speaks had eight illegal video gambling devices.
According to officers, Speaks owns the devices and had them set up in the living room for customers to play and receive cash payments as a result of gambling games that the customers played on the devices according to deputies.
On Thursday, a Lexington County magistrate ruled that each of the Pot-O-Gold-type tabletop video poker devices were illegal, and the devices were seized by officers.
