Sumter, SC (WLTX) A man who police say has been targeting convenience stores to steal Newport cigarettes has been arrested.

Thomas Bradley, 43, of Sumter has been charged with five counts of burglary-2nd degree. He was arrested after a brief foot chase on Rolling Creek Drive in Sumter.

Three of the burglary charges are for the city, and two are in the county.

Investigators link him to burglaries at Young's on Mason Road, Young's at Lafayette Drive and Charlotte Street, the Busy Bee on East Liberty Street, Young's at Nandina and U.S. 15, and The Station in Mayesville.

Currently he is in the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center pending bond.

In each case, the stores were broken into after hours, causing damage to the buildings. Together, more than $4,000 in goods, mostly Newports cigarettes, were reported stolen.
