Fairfield County, SC (WLTX) - One woman is dead after a house fire on Lake Wateree Friday night.

Fairfield County Coronor Barkley Ramsey says 53-year-old Dianna Wood, whose originally from the United Kingdom, died in a fire at her home on Great North Road.

Chief Deputy Keith Lewis with Fairfield County Sheriff's office says he was notified shortly before midnight and believes the fire broke around that time.

Officials say the two were sleeping when the fire started and when they woke up the home was fully engulfed.

Ramsey says the husband was able to escape by breaking the bathroom window and jumping out.

He was transported to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta.

Deputies believe the husband thought his wife was behind him when he jumped out.

The couple's three dogs did not survive the fire.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was called in early Saturday to assist Fairfield County Firefighters in determining the cause of the fire.

The fire remains under investigation.
