A road patrol deputy from the South Region Patrol District, which is based near Pelion, responded to investigate the vehicle and discovered that it had previously been reported stolen.

Lexington, SC (WLTX) Lexington County Sheriff's Department Aviation Unit discovered a stolen vehicle during the National Night Out celebration.

Lexington County Sheriff A. Lewis McCarty said the Lexington County Aviation Unit spotted and recovered a stolen vehicle near the 200 block of Rutherford Road during National Night Out.

The Sheriff's department helicopter was on display for the Gaston and Sharpe's Hill Crime Watch Groups at their National Night Out festival which held at the Gaston Town Hall on Tuesday night.

After the event, the aviation unit was returning to the helicopter hangar and during their flight back, senior helicopter pilot Lt. Garry Rozier spotted a suspicious vehicle located on a power line near Rutherford Road.

"In all of my years in law enforcement, that vehicle just jumped out to me as very suspicious," Rozier said. While piloting the helicopter, Rozier sent a request to dispatchers via radio for a road patrol unit to respond to the location in order to investigate the vehicle.
