Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Columbia Police Department is performing safety checkpoints throughout the city.
The department says they will have extra patrols and DUI and speed enforcement at several locations, including a major interstate and parts of south Columbia.
The city says they picked the areas because of traffic violations that have occurred there in the past.
Police say every vehicle that enters the checkpoints will be stopped. Police will look to see if people have a valid driver's license, ossible impairment, if they're using a seat belt, and any other violation that may be present.
University of South Carolina Police and The South Carolina Highway Patrol will also take part in the effort.
