Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Harvest Hope Food Bank laid off 10 staff members statewide.
The employees were stationed at the non-profit organization's locations in Greenville, Columbia, Florence, and Lexington. There are a total of 88 staff members who work for Harvest Hope.
Furloughs days for the rest of the employees will start in two weeks, with those days rotating at all four locations. Harvest Hope spokesman Skot Garrick says several factors went into the layoffs, including broken equipment and a high volume of demand of food.
Garrick says the group has not seen a decrease in donations, but adds that this is the time of year when donations slow down. He says the non-profit is not in financial danger and will not be closing stores.
