Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A downtown Columbia high-rise is being transformed into upscale apartment complex.
Capitol Places, Painite Capital, and Mashburn Construction announced plans Wednesday to turn the Owen Building on Lady Street into a 130 unit residents called Thirteen 21 Lofts.
As the name indicates, the building is located at 1321 Lady Street, and has stood at that location since it was built in 1949.
Developers say residents will be able to choose from one and two-bedroom units. The place will have a salt water swimming pool, sundeck and grilling area, a theater room, and a fitness center.
"We're looking forward to getting started with this next residential project," said Jeff Prioreschi, Managing Member of Painite Capital. "Even with all of the apartments that have been built and proposed, there's still an undersupply around the City Center due to the steady influx of urbanites, Thirteen 21 Lofts will be our seventh downtown residential project during the last 16 years. Because of the strong demand for wanting to live downtown, this will be one of many residential projects to come in the near future."
People who live in the other Capitol Places residents in downtown will also be able to use the building's amenities.
Construction will begin early next year, and the $22 million renovation is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
