(WLTX) - Cate Blanchett takes smugness tonew heightsin "Blue Jasmine." But she can hardly be held accountable for it. The haughty life is all she's ever known and now she's in for some overdue humbling.

Her husband worked investment scams for years before the IRS caught up with him. Not only did he lose all of their money - but also that of her working-class sister and brother-in-law. Now that her husband is out of the picture, Jasmine's only salvation is with the very sister she helped bring to financial ruin.

The timeline of this film bounces back-and-forth between a happier past and self-loathing present. One minute, our heroine is relaxing in the Hamptons. The next, she's popping pills and talking to herself on a park bench.

It may be too early to talk Oscar buzz. But Cate Blanchett, again, reminds us of just how dedicated an actress she is as we witness her undoing.

"Blue Jasmine" will be playing at the Nickelodeon Theatre for the next two weeks. Celebrate the venue's birthday by purchasing a ticket to one of Woody Allen's best films in years!
