Fairfield County, S.C. (WLTX)-- The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating what led a woman's vehicle to veer off the road and strike a tree, ultimately resulting in her death.

The wreck happened about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, along Interstate 77 near the Winnsboro exit. Investigators say a tractor with an enclosed trailer was involved.

According to Trooper Billy Elder, both vehicles were travelling north along the interstate, when the vehicle the woman was driving went off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and then a tree.

The woman was transported to Fairfield Medical Center where she later died. Her name has not yet been released. It's not yet clear how the tractor factored into the crash.
