Camp Kemo is a summer camp for children with cancer and their siblings.

Batesburg-Leesville (WLTX)- More than 100 campers arrived at Camp Kemo Monday afternoon.

"I really want to go swimming, it is calling my name," said 10 year-old Owen Plasman. This is the second year Plasman has attended Camp Kemo, He was in the middle of chemo treatment for bone cancer last year.

"It was a lot harder because I was on crutches the whole time. I couldn't go swimming and it was hard for me to go up and down steps," said Plasman.

Camp Kemo, led by Palmetto Health Children's Hospital, is a summer camp for children with cancer and blood disorders and their siblings. The camp is funding through community donations.

Dr. Ron Neuberg, Medical Director at Palmetto Health Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, has watched kids come and go from this camp for 28 years.

"Childhood cancer has gone through incredible improvement in survival rates," said Dr. Neuberg. The theme for this years camp is Dr. Seuss.
