Columbia, SC (WLTX) -Some University of South Carolina students were joined by former Vice-President Al Gore in their political science class.

He gave students his view on the future of American politics via videoconference.

The students are taking either Don Fowler's "Politics and Mass Media" or "The Future of American Politics: 2035."

Fowler has held top posts in the Democratic Party in South Carolina and nationally for 40 years. Most notably, he was chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1995-97.

After Gore spoke, he took questions from the students.

Fowler often makes prominent government figures and political reporters available to students. Two weeks ago, Federal Communications Commissioner Mignon Clyburn attended his class.
