COLUMBIA, SC (WLTX) -- Jadeveon Clowney spoke to reporters in Houston recently, and he's looking forward to put his signing bonus to work for his mother.
He said he plans to buy his mother "whatever she wants," as well as putting his $14+ million signing bonus towards probably buying his mom a house, and saving the rest. "I've just got to take care of my money and save it," Clowney said; "I've got to buy my mom something nice."
Clowney signed his rookie contract with the Houston Texans last Friday, for a guaranteed $22M, including the $14M signing bonus, and giving Jadeveon an average of over $5 and a half million for the next four years.
He told reporters he is focused on making the move from the defensive end position played with the Gamecocks, to outside linebacker for the Texans. "That's the first step, is getting here. The next step is to take it farther than that, try to get better at the game I love to do, play football."
He also said his mother likely wouldn't make the move to Houston, instead electing to remain in South Carolina close to family and his grandparents.
The Houston Texans have a number of extended interviews with Clowney, along with additional Texans players, available on their website.
