Charlotte, NC (WLTX) --- Columbia native Jonathan Byrd does not have a top 10 finish in 2014 but his start in Charlotte is a sign that he could be positioning himself for a high finish.

The former Spring Valley and Clemson standout shot a 4-under 68 in round one of the Wachovia Championship at Quail Hollow.

Byrd does have a good history at this event, he lost in a playoff to fellow Clemson alum Lucas Glover in 2011.

WIth his 68, Byrd is two shots behind leader Angel Cabrera who fired a 6-under 66.
