Richland County, SC (WLTX) - A News19 investigation discovered that some student-athletes in the Midlands are playing with banned and outdated football helmets.

Earlier this week we told you about a Virginia Tech Study that shows some helmets are not safe. Previous Coverage: Could Your Athlete be Playing with an Unsafe Helmet

Since our story aired, close to 100 helmets have been pulled from schools, and Friday, Blythewood High School announced it is doing away with unsafe helmets.

The school had several of the helmets that received a two out of five star rating.

Richland District Two's spokeswoman says after seeing our story, they decided to pull those helmets from the school's inventory. Until they are replaced, the athletic director has suspended any contact drills during practice.
