Sumter, SC (WLTX) --- Sumter has hired its replacement for Reggie Kennedy and it's someone Gamecock fans hope will continue the success that was created in Kennedy's only year with the blue and yellow.
John Jones, the offensive coordinator for Sumter, has been promoted to head coach.
Jones has been an assistant coach for 16 years, 12 under Reggie Kennedy during stops at Kingstree, Orangeburg-Wilkinson, Fairfield Central and Sumter.
The Florence native has also been a head coach at North High School and an assistant at West Florence High School.
Jones takes over for Kennedy who in his only year with the Gamecocks led them to the 4A state finals where they lost to Dutch Fork. Kennedy is now the head coach and athletics director at Irmo High School.
Sumter is expected to name a new athletics director in the coming weeks. Kennedy had held down both jobs and will do likewise at Irmo.
