Greenville, SC (WLTX) --- The annual South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Clinic brought high school coaches from across the state to the TD Convention Center in Greenville.

This past spring saw a flurry of late resignations and quick hires by the likes of Irmo and Sumter. But Lugoff-Elgin's transition is just a little more than two weeks old.

When longtime head coach Scott Jones left abruput in early July to become the offensive coordinator at Ben Lippen, Lugoff-Elgin promoted defensive coordinator Dave Thomas to interim head coach on July 14.

With 19 years as an assistant under his belt, Thomas says he feels prepared for his first head coaching job, even if his promotion came with less than three weeks from the start of preseason practice.

Thomas said the structure created by Jones has eased the transition. While the coach says he will put his fingerprints on the program, Thomas insists there won't be a drastic overhaul of schemes and philosophies, but rather some subtle adjustments to represent his philosophy.
