Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Pelion High defeated Cardinal Newman in one of the opening games of the 2014 High School Football season in South Carolina.

The game was part of the "Battle on the Bluff" at River Bluff High School, a series of games behind held on that school's field for opening week.

Pelion was trailing 6-0 at halftime. but the Panthers get on the board in the third quarter, when quarterback Daniel Hawkins took a keeper into the endzone.

The extra point was good making it 7-6 Pelion.

Later, Pelion's Braxton Jones gets loose for a 45 yard touchdown.

Cardinal Newman's defense would keep them in the game, but the Cardinals had two drives in the red zone in the fourth quarter that each ended with interceptions.

The Battle on the Bluff continues with two games on Friday and Saturday starting a 5:30 p.m.
