Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- Julie Surratt struck out a career high 10 batters as USC defeated Boston University 2-0 Friday night on the first day of the Gamecock Invitational at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.

In five innings of work, Surratt allowed just one hit and did not walk a batter.

USC scored its first run in the fourth courtesy of an RBI single by pinch-hitter Victoria Williams. Dana Hathorn crossed the plate on the hit.

In the fifth Codee Yeske added some insurance with a triple to center. A Terrier error on the play allowed Yeskee to score for a 2-0 lead.

The Gamecock Invitational runs through Sunday.
