Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- The first home game of the 2014 season at Capital City Stadium saw the Columbia Blowfish lead the way for a win in more ways than one.
The Blowfish defeated Gastonia 4-0 and also led the way on Pink Night.
The team has a partnership with the SC State Fair and its Pink Campaign which promotes Breast Cancer Awareness. The SC State Fair is distributing more than 100,000 packets of pink forget-me-not seeds as part of its "seeds of hope" campaign which supports awareness and early detection of breast cancer.
With the fight against breast cancer taking center stage, Blowfish players wore pink sleeves and socks and some hit the plate with pink bats.
With many fans sporting that color, two cousins who have been affected directly by breast cancer, threw out the ceremonial first pitches. Breast cancer survivors were recognized before the game which featured pink fireworks following the conclusion.
