Darlington, SC (WLTX) --- Next Saturday night, Chip Wile will watch his first Bojangles Southern 500 as Darlington Raceway President.
Wile took over the track last August after a stint as director of business development at Motor Racing Network. The Atlanta native understands the rich history of NASCAR and Darlington's place on the schedule.
When it was announced that NASCAR was moving the Southern 500 from Mother's Day weekend to April 12, there was some apprehension. After all, it wasn't that long ago when Darlington was thought to be in its final chapter as an annual stop on the NASCAR schedule.
Wile refers to Darlington Raceway as "the Lambeau Field of NASCAR' and says the track will remain a fixture in the sport.
