Homestand continues Wednesday against USC Upstate at 7 p.m.
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Eighth ranked South Carolina broke open a one-run game with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and five Gamecock pitchers combined for a six-hit shutout in an 8-0 victory over Davidson on Tuesday night in non-conference action at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks improve to 31-10 with Davidson falling to 23-11 on the year. It is the 12th shutout of the season for South Carolina.
With a 1-0 lead, the Gamecocks tacked on six runs in the bottom half of the sixth sending 10 batters to the plate in the process. Six consecutive batters reached base to open the inning. Joey Pankake led off with a single and Kyle Martin walked to put a pair of runners on base. Grayson Greiner would drive in Pankake with a RBI double down the left field line, and Patrick Harrington would bring home Martin on a RBI infield single.DC Arendas added RBI bunt for a base hit. Harrington eventually scored on a passed ball and Gene Cone would add a fielder's choice to plate home the last run as the Gamecocks built a seven-run lead. Carolina added a run in the eighth inning on a sac fly from Greiner.
The Gamecocks continue the homestand on Wednesday hosting USC Upstate. First pitch is 7 p.m.
