Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- Clemson righty Daniel Gossett was taken in the second round of baseball's amateur draft Thursday night by the Oakland Athletics.

Gossett, the ace of the Clemson pitching staff, was the 65th overall selection by the A's after going 7-2 in his junior season with the Tigers.

Coming out of Byrnes High School, Gossett was a 16th round selection of the Red Sox.

Conway native Grant Holmes was the first Palmetto State player taken. The brother of former USC pitcher Colby Holmes was taken by the Dodgers in the first round with the 22nd overall selection. He was projected as one of the top right-handed pitching prospects in the entire draft.
