COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - State officials have given final approval to $33 million worth of athletic projects at South Carolina, including redoing the plaza around football's Williams-Brice Stadium.
The State Budget and Control Board approved the projects Wednesday. Other upgrades for the athletic department include a new building for men's and women's soccer at Stone Stadium, a new track and field oval at Weems Baskin Track and a upgraded Field House with an indoor, six-lane banked track.
Athletic director Ray Tanner said the improvements will help the Gamecocks recruit top athletes and compete for titles in the Southeastern Conference.
The university's Board of Trustees approved the projects in February 2013.
