Columbia, SC (WLTX) - South Carolina won its opening game of the NCAA Regional Friday night, defeating Campbell 5-2.

The Gamecocks were led by a strong pitching performance by Jordan Montgomery, who gave up the two runs on just five hit and had nine strikeouts. Montgomery is 5-0 in NCAA Tournament games.

Marcus Mooney and Kyle Martin each scored two runs for USC.

With the victory, USC kept up its NCAA tournament winning streak, which now stands at 28 games.

The Gamecocks will play next play Maryland , who beat Old Dominion earlier in the day. Game time is 7 p.m. on Saturday.
