Columbia, SC (WLTX) - South Carolina baseball stars Grayson Greiner and Jordan Montgomery have been selected in the MLB Draft.
Greiner was drafted in the third round by the Detroit Tigers, while Montgomery was selected by the New York Yankees.
Greiner, a catcher, played in 60 games for USC with 58 starts, batting .311 with 50 RBIs, 13 doubles, and 8 homers. He was named to the SEC All-Defensive team after having just two errors all season long.
A Columbia native who graduated from Blythewood High School, Greiner was named the 2013-14 Co-Male Student-Athlete of the Year for USC.
Montgomery, who's from Sumter, had an 8-5 record last season with a 3.42 ERA and 95 strikeouts. For his career, he was 20-7.
He was undefeated in the playoffs in his time with the Gamecocks, going 5-0 with a 0.93 ERA. He's one of just 22 pitchers in school history to record 20 wins.
Following the news, Greiner tweeted out that he was excited about being drafted, but a little surprised that he'll now be a "Tiger."
