Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The Voice of the Gamecocks spoke to the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce Thursday morning about the success of the University of South Carolina football team and how it impacts business. The breakfast took place at the Spring Valley Country Club.
The former Gamecocks quarterback says success on the football team leads to people in the community being in a better mood and spending more money at restaurants and other businesses. However, Ellis says the 1999 season shows the commitment of Gamecock fans. He says USC ranked #11 in the country that year in attendance despite a team that went 0-11 on the football field.
Ellis also spoke about the upcoming football season. He predicts the Gamecocks will have double digit wins, but says the team needs to strive toward 12 wins (referring to the SEC Championship game).
