Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- In the court of public opinion, a coach's career will usually be judged on wins and losses. As Frank Martin enters his third season at USC, his team is hoping to continue the momentum of its play in March when it upset a ranked Kentucky team and won multiple games in the SEC Tournament for the first time since 2008.

However, a record-setting performance in the Spring semester had the coach smiling as his team posted a program-best 3.217 grade point average.

As a former math teacher, Martin will always make sure his guys are going to class. But the coach says the tools are there for his players from a state-of-the-art building in "The Dodie" to the academic support staff whose goal is to make sure the athletes are taking care of business away from sports. The coach says his main goal is to make sure his players are going to class and through everyone working as a unit, the players know what is expected when they are not playing or practicing in their chosen arena.

As classes began Thursday at USC, the basketball team went about its business knowning a 3.2 GPA is great, but the coach will be expecting a higher number in the fall.
