Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- Steve Spurrier credits a daily workout regimen to his longevity as a coach. The Head Ball Coach will turn 69 in April, but has gone on record saying he feels as good as he did in his 40's, which is where Frank Martin is right now.
The 47-year-old Martin is also a creature of habit in that virtually every morning, you will find him in the Colonial Life Arena weight room where he attacks the weights the same way he wants his players to attack an opposing defense.
Martin says he has always enjoyed working out and the time spent in the weight room pays dividends by keeping him sharp physically and mentally.
While the job at hand is to execute a given exercise, his mind is thinking about the day's events which could include practice or a game.
Martin admits that he doesn't work out at the same level he did in his younger days, but adds there is still a competitor within himself and that spirit is evident in the way he carries himself in the weight room. When he's working out, the cell phone is tucked away, allowing Martin some rare moments of total solitude.
But when he finishes his workout, both the body and mind are energized and Martin heads to the office ready for the next set of challenges that he will face as he continues the process of building the USC program.
