New York, NY (CBS/WLTX) -- CBS Sports is reorganizing their Sunday pre-game show "The NFL Today."
The Chairman of CBS Sports, Sean McManus, announces the addition of former KC Chiefs & Atlanta Falcons All-Pro tight end Tony Gonzalez is joining the Sunday show as an analyst, along with additional duties as a contributor to additional CBS platforms, including Showtime and the CBS Sports Network.
McManus is quoted: "Having just stepped off the playing field, Tony brings a fresh and insightful perspective...as a future Hall of Famer, we are excited for him to share his knowledge, experiences, and opinions with our viewers."
Along with the announced addition of Gonzalez, who joins James Brown, Bill Cowher, and Boomer Esiason on "The NFL Today," McManus says that Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe will no longer be a part of the Sunday pre-game coverage.
"We want to acknowledge (Marino and Sharpe) who have contributed greatly to the success of "The NFL Today" for more than a decade. Dan and Shannon are true Hall of Famers on the field and in front of the camera....we thank them for their hard work and dedication, and wish them nothing but the best."
Gonzalez is a UC-Berkeley grad, earning first-team All Pac-10 and first-team All-American honors on the football field ahead of 17 years in the NFL at Kansas City and Atlanta.
