Charleston is in the running against cities like Boston, Massachusetts; San Francisco, California; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Savannah, Georgia.

Charleston was founded by English colonists in 1670, and was one of the continent's most prosperous and influential cities by the mid-18th century, thanks to rice, indigo, and cotton production. Some say walking through Charleston's historic streets feels like stepping back in time.

You can cast one vote each day. Voting ends April 28th.
