Columbia, SC (WLTX) – A slow-moving cold front is still approaching from the west and drawing in moisture form the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic today resulting in soaking rain around the Midlands.

Heavy rain moved in this morning and is expected to continue for most of the day. Most locations around the Midlands will pick up 1 to 2 inches of rain by the end of the day. Since heavy rain is moving slowly over the same areas, flooding will continue to be a concern.

The storm prediction center still has the region under a slight risk for severe storms since there is a risk of isolated severe weather. The greatest threat for severe weather will stay to our east.

The actual front will move through the Midlands this evening. We'll see rapid drying and cooling behind the front tonight.

Dry weather returns Friday with more typical Spring temperatures.
