Bowman, SC (WLTX) - National Weather Service surveyors confirmed that a tornado touched down in Orangeburg County Tuesday night.

The twister caused damage in an area seven miles east-southeast of the town of Bowman. The cyclone was rated an EF-0, the weakest rating on the Enhanced Fujita scale, which measures a tornado's intensity. Wind speeds were estimated to be between 75 and 85 miles an hour, and it was 75 yards wide.

The tornado stayed on the ground for about two minutes.

Surveyors say the twister snapped off a few trees and uprooted several others along a 1.5 mile long path from Ditch Bank Road to Fiesta Court.

A tornado warning was in effect for the area while the funnel was on the ground.
