Premature birth is the leading cause of death among newborns in South Carolina. In South Carolina, 149 babies are born too soon every week. Babies born too small and too soon struggle to survive the first few weeks and months of life. Many of those babies will have health and developmental problems even when they’re adults.

With South Carolinians getting
the right information about
prevention, risk factors and
prenatal care, we can see the
numbers of premature babies
in our state go down.

It is for that reason WLTX and March of Dimeshave partnered in an educational campaign called “Too Small, Too Soon.”

The campaign features News 19 Anchor Darci Strickland, who has three young daughters herself (including a set of infant twins). “Too Small, Too Soon” presents important information for expectant parents in public service announcements throughout the day and night on WLTX-19, news stories, and extensive information on the web at wltx.com.
