(WLTX) - Tropical Storm Don has formed in the deep Atlantic, but at this point, it doesn't appear to be any threat to South Carolina or the United States.
The National Hurricane Center said late Monday afternoon that the system had gotten organized enough to classify it as a tropical storm. It had winds of just 40 miles an hour, however, just barely above the threshold to even get that designation.
Don was moving to the west at 17 miles an hour.
The storm is on a track that will take it close to the coast of South America That path would be thousands of miles south of any part of the U.S. mainland.
This is the fourth named tropical system in the Atlantic this year.
