Freeze Warning Issued for Part of the Midlands

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a freeze warning from 1 to 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Some residents can expect a very cold start to the weekend. 

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a freeze warning from 1 to 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The counties affected are Newberry, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lee, and Sumter, and includes the cities of  Lancaster, Elgin, Lancaster Mill, Cheraw, Pageland, Newberry, Winnsboro, Winnsboro Mills, Camden, Lugoff, Bishopville and Sumter.

Below freezing temperatures are expected after 1 a.m. and will last through sunrise and rising above freezing by 9 a.m.

Even areas that are not part the warning will feel very cold as well. Wind chill values will get into the upper 20s for much of the region. 

Take steps now to protect sensitive vegetation from frost and freeze conditions, and be sure to find a warm place for your pets.
