Heavy Rains Flood Parts of the Midlands

Storms brought flooding rains to the Columbia area on Sunday.

(WLTX) -- Severe thunderstorms roared through the Midlands on Sunday, bringing flooding rains to the area.

Columbia Police tweeted the 2300-block of Marion Street is shut down due to flooding.  The intersection of Main and Whaley Streets were shut down, but reopened around 10 p.m.


Radar indicates over three inches of rain fell in the Downtown Columbia area in under an hour.  As much as 4 inches have fallen near MLK Park.

MONDAY'S FORECAST: More Heat, Storms Monday

The storms also brought trees down in the area.  As of midnight, SCE&G reported approximately 1,500 power outages in Richland and Lexington Counties.

The Storms Prediction Center had reports of trees down in areas of Calhoun, Kershaw, Richland, Edgefield, Fairfield, Saluda, and Newberry Counties.
