Wedding Cake Tips and Tidbits:
- Make an appointment when you meet with bakers, rather than just dropping in casually. This will allow the baker plenty of time to prepare, and may be able to offer specialty samples.
- Don’t be afraid to ask to taste! Though the baker will probably offer this upfront, make sure you are able to sample. This will allow you to have a feel for what the finished product will taste like.
- Most bakers charge per piece of cake. After you find out the cost per slice, ask about additional charges such as delivery charges, accessory rentals and more. Be sure to find out what deposits are required upfront.
- If your wedding has unique weather conditions, let the baker know upfront. If you have an outdoor wedding in June, your baker can make suggestions to eliminate the melting of your icing.
- Do you plan to freeze the top layer of your wedding cake to have for your first anniversary? Let your baker know! Some bakers have special recipes or ingredients that freeze better.
Cost Saving Tip:
- You can save money by having a smaller showpiece wedding cake, and asking your caterer to cut slices of sheet cake to hand bring out to guests. Get cost estimates for this idea, and see if this is the right way to save for you!
